Lutra House - Jura

About

roomed self catering holiday cottage built in 2009. The house sleeps 6, and is decorated and furnished to a very high standard. The island of Jura is a beautiful but little known island with a population of some 250 people and 6000 deer.

Jura is 29 miles long with 115 miles of coastline to explore featuring caves, cliffs, raised beaches and long stretches of white sand. Our self-catering cottage is located on the shore of peaceful Crackaig Bay close to the rocky shoreline with an an undisturbed sandy beach at the far end of the bay, and offers extremely comfortable holiday accommodation in a truly stunning location.

Jura has with some of the most spectacular scenery to be found in the Western Isles. The three Paps to the south rise to a height of 300 meters and to the west coast there are many cliffs and raised beached that were formed by ice sheets. Jura has the third strongest whirlpool in the world, Corryvreckan. The beaches offer peace and quiet and the unspoilt, remote setting is a lovely place to enjoy wildlife. Red deer, Wild Goats, Common and Grey seals are numerous and you may be lucky and see Otters swimming and playing in our bay. Gold Eagle, Sea Eagle, Hen Harrier, Arctic Skua, Eider duck, Short Eared Owl, Meadow and Rock Pipit are all often seen.

Crackaig Bay lies one and a half miles from the main village of Craighouse where you will find the usual amenities including petrol pumps, post office, gift shop, tearoom and hotel with bar and restaurant. The famous Isle of Jura Malt Whisky Distillery is also to be found at Craighouse.

From your Jura holiday cottage you will enjoy magnificent views of the sea and beyond towards Kintyre and the Isle of Gigha. On a clear day the Island of Mull and the tip of Northern Ireland are also visible.
