The Barriemore - Oban

Guest House- 4 stars

About

The Barriemore enjoys a splendid location as the last hotel on the Oban seafront beside the War Memorial heading north towards Ganavan on Corran Esplanade. From its superior vantage point it commands magnificent panoramas towards the town and the islands of Kerrera, Lismore and Mull. Built in 1895 for John Stuart McCaig, a wealthy Oban banker who financed the construction of the famous local landmark known as McCaigs Tower, the house exudes an air of opulence in keeping with its late Victorian origins.

Renowned as the "Gateway to the Isles" with ferry access to the isles of Lismore Mull, Iona, Coll, Staffa, Tiree and Colonsay, Oban offers a wide variety of day trips to the Inner Hebrides. Iona Abbey was founded by St. Columba who brought Christianity to Scotland, whilst Staffa has the famous Fingal's Cave, immortalised in Mendelssohn's overture. Inland from Oban there are direct touring routes to Fort William and Glencoe, Crianlarich, Pitlochry, Tartbert, Campbeltown and Dunoon. There is an 18 hole golf course within ten minutes drive, a Sea life Centre, the Cruachan "hollow mountain" Visitor Centre, a Rare Breeds Park and a host of other attractions in and around the town of Oban.

The centre of Oban is a ten minute walk away, and here there is a wide range of restaurants and hotels offering a variety of cuisine to suit all tastes and pockets.
