TheDailySail was originally founded under the name madforsailing.com and went live just prior to the Sydney Olympics in 2000. James Boyd joined as Editor in the spring of 2001. Two significant landmarks occurred during early 2002 when madforsailing picked up the Sealine Marine Media Award at the prestigious British Nautical Awards - the first website ever to do so. Shortly after madforsailing also became the first marine website to become fully subscription. In October 2002 madforsailing was acquired by Sailing Media Ltd, with James Boyd and Andy Nicholson as shareholders, and was relaunched under the name TheDailySail under who's auspices it continues to thrive
