About
As chief surveyor Bob Fleck has the marine industry background, knowledge and experience to understand and meet the requirements of his clients. He has been sailing since a boy and started a commercial marine career as mate and later skipper of large charter yachts. He qualified as a Yachtmaster Instructor and then set up and ran a yacht charter company and a sailing school for many years. He also taught evening classes in navigation and seamanship and was a radio examiner.
Working in boat yards in the winter months he gained further experience of boat building and repair and moved into this full time after selling the charter business. He has acquired a good knowledge of boat structure, repair techniques in different materials, rigs and rigging, and fitting out as well as the required practical skills.
He studied for a Diploma in Marine Surveying with the International Institute of Marine Surveyors and graduated with merit in all subjects, including additional specialist modules. This period also included training at the International Boat Building College at Lowestoft. As an Associate Member of the International Institute of Marine Surveyors he follows a course of continuous professional development to add to his knowledge and understanding and to keep abreast with changes and advancements in the industry.
He intends to carry on with further study for a BSc (Hons) in Marine Surveying
